The main inspiration for BetTime came from a frame in an episode of Big Bang Theory. Amongst the numerous background objects, a yellow box with a handle caught my attention...

Sketching phase

Right from the start, I thought to incorporate classic elements from flip clocks. As I contemplated the functions to integrate, I carefully considered how the various buttons would impact the overall readability and usability of the product. After exploring several concepts, both on paper and digitally, I arrived at the key elements that would define the alarm clock.

The screen on the right side of the front panel, the exposed screws, and the handle coated in a glossy, steel-like material seamlessly complement the retro charm of the numbers, resulting in a product that fits well in various environments without appearing out of place.

I paid attention to the details on the back of the alarm clock. The speaker grille features a combination of holes and ridges forming the letters ZZZ, symbolizing sleep. Additionally, I aimed to maintain a low profile for the USB-C port and the power/Bluetooth connection button, ensuring they don't take up too much space.

After pressing the button to stop the alarm and confirming it with the lever, a random flashing sequence of the four LEDs begins. The waking-up process is based on correctly repeating the order of the light activation using the buttons. This system provides a mild mental challenge that is enough to wake up the user.
