Project Overview
BetTime is an alarm clock that combines classic flip clocks with a system of lights and buttons, resulting in a new wake-up experience.

What I Learned
I got the chance to experiment a lot creatively, starting from a very speculative brief.
This project started with a speculative and funny goal:
Design an alarm clock with its own soul, where the waking up experience puts the user as an active part of the process.
The main inspiration came from a frame in an episode of Big Bang Theory. Among the numerous background objects, a geiger counter sparked something in my head.
The main element for most of the interaction will be the side lever.
Sketching Phase
Right from the start, I thought to incorporate classic elements from flip clocks. As I contemplated the functions to integrate, I carefully considered how the various buttons would impact the overall readability and usability of the product. After exploring several concepts, both on paper and digitally, I arrived at the key elements that would define the alarm clock.
General Product Aesthetic
The screen on the right side of the front panel, the exposed screws, and the handle coated in a glossy, steel-like material seamlessly complement the retro charm of the numbers, resulting in a a product that, despite its strong character, manages to stand out without feeling out of place in different environments.

I had a lot of fun playing with hidden details, like the sound grille on the back of the body, which forms the letters ZZZ, symbolizing sleep.
Available Colorways
I also played with colors, drawing from iconic 70s palettes to bring in that retro charm in this way too.
The LED system will be the mental challenge that actually gets the user out of bed.
Waking Up Experience
After stopping the alarm with the button and confirming with the lever, a random LED sequence starts. The user has to repeat the correct order using the buttons, giving just enough of a mental challenge to actually wake you up.
Screen Mascotte
The mascot will bring some life to the product. Depending on certain actions, the face will switch to useful icons for the user: alarm going off, wrong combo entered, weather and more.
